Assistant Headteacher - Head of Jewish Studies - Simon Marks Jewish Primary School

Salary: Leadership Scale 3-7 £48,332 - £52,667 (Inner London allowance)

Commencing: September 2017 (or sooner)

This is an exciting time to join Simon Marks Jewish Primary School as we continue on our rapid journey of improvement. We are looking for an Assistant/Deputy Headteacher to inspire and lead our Jewish Studies and Ivrit Department in September 2017 or sooner.

We are seeking an inspirational practitioner who will develop our students’ creativity, spiritual wellbeing and intellectual curiosity while striving for academic achievement. They will have a proven track record of implementing a curriculum that is steeped in the awareness and engagement with ancient and modern Jewish heritage and whilst promoting moral and British values, diversity, inclusivity and prepare students to live in an ever-changing world with confidence and pride.

As a diverse Jewish school with pupils from a range of different faith and belief backgrounds, we are looking for someone who will:

  • Be a leader of the SLT and contribute to the effective leadership of the school;
  • Assist and support the Headteacher when required;
  • Secure the highest standards of Jewish Studies and Ivrit teaching and learning to ensure every pupil meets their potential;
  • Manage and inspire the Jewish studies and Ivrit staff;
  • Teach designated classes according to the requirements of the timetable;
  • Inspire, nurture and promote an inclusive Jewish ethos in all areas of school life;
  • Develop and implement a creative, innovative and challenging Jewish studies curriculum.

You will have:

  • Honours Degree;
  • DfE recognised QTS;
  • Relevant CPD training courses;
  • Further degree/Professional qualification (Desirable).

You will be:

  • An outstanding, highly motivated and experiences teacher with consistent teaching standard of “Good+” over a sustained period of time;
  • Significant experience of leading/managing a staff team;
  • Excellent knowledge and ability to teach Jewish studies;
  • Experience in teaching Ivrit (Desirable);
  • Proven track record in raising attainment and expectations of pupils achievement;
  • Involvement in leading/managing a whole school initiative.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Strategies for raising pupil achievement and progress;
  • Effective practice and approaches to teaching and learning;
  • How to lead whole school management and change;
  • Managing staff and appraisal processes;
  • Current educational trends and thinking;
  • School performance review and self-evaluation processes;
  • Effective monitoring and intervention strategies;
  • How to use data and information to effect school improvement/raise achievement   (including pupil groups/pupil premium);
  • Pikuach/Ofsted framework for school inspection/self-evaluation;
  • Effective working relationships with a range of external agencies/community partners especially PaJES and JCP.

  • Is a strong team player and can work collaboratively;
  • Can make tough decisions;
  • Has a life outside of school;
  • Has a fantastic sense of humour.
