Governor Training

PaJeS runs termly governor workshops where governors have a chance to network with those from different schools over supper, receive a briefing on a topical issue and then attend one of three workshops on offer. We also run induction training for new governors in both state schools and independent schools. These evenings not only benefit new governors but also serve as valuable refresher sessions for more longstanding governors.

NEXT EVENT: Governor Workshop Evening
DATE: Monday 3 June

Workshop 1: Voluntary contributions guidance and fundraising advice, BDO

This will look at the different sources of funding for schools and which can be considered charitable donations. This will be relevant both to state schools and independent schools.

We will look at what can and cannot be mentioned when communicating with parents, including the wording of voluntary contributions letters.

We will also look at examples of good practice as to how best to appeal to parents and conduct successful fundraising campaigns for schools.

Workshop 2: Question, challenge and knowing when to have a courageous conversation, Clare Collins

This will look at how and when your governing board should question and challenge the HT/CEO, ensuring effective accountability while offering the support required to maintain good professional relationships. This session will focus on how, by focusing on its strategic role, the board can ensure that those with possible conflicts of interest (such as parent and staff governors/trustees) can undertake the governance role in a positive and constructive manner.
