Growing Together

As part of Children’s Mental Health week, PaJeS hosted an event targeted at parents of children with Special Educational Needs. Parents of neuro-diverse children have highlighted concerns that their children are at greater risk of mental health challenges and are looking for guidance in both prevention tools and supportive techniques to help their children.

Dr Alison Mac Crosain gave the group strategies to manage and understand their children’s emotional experiences, such as validating the child’s feelings, suggesting tools to help the child find their emotional vocabulary, and how to identify and support particular triggers.

Hannah Abrahams and Chris Gurney from Gesher School gave parents tools to support the development of friendships and social relationships such as modelling positive interactions and how to help their child be reflective after a social event or playdate.
