We aim to develop a culture where Jewish and Israeli film is recognised and enjoyed by the widest possible audience
What we do
UK Jewish Film showcases a wide range of feature films, documentaries and shorts, which tell varied stories of Jewish and Israeli culture and life. Since inception our UK and international film Festivals have reached over 150,000 visitors. We aim to develop a culture where Jewish and Israeli film is recognised and enjoyed by the widest possible audience, and to position Jewish related film at the heart of British culture. Our work encourages pride of, and knowledge in, our Jewish culture amongst our younger generations and promotes understanding and awareness towards Jewish and Israeli people and culture.
We have a small education team offering workshops, film screenings, educational resources and advice on using Jewish film in the classroom.
What we offer schools
-
Hackney Roots - an online educational resource featuring film clips, interactive tasks and filmmaking guidance. Through film screenings, online resources and face to face workshops, we aim to educate a generation of young people, Jewish and non-Jewish, about the significance of the East End and Hackney in Anglo-Jewish culture as a starting point for discussion about wider concepts of cultural identity and cultural heritage. The intergenerational, film based programme is targeted primarily at year 8 students in secondary schools. Click here to see a trailer about the pilot project
-
Holocaust education - film screenings with Q&As; advice on pedagogical approaches to using Holocaust films in the classroom; suggestions for suitable films from our extensive archive.
-
Interfaith education – film screenings with Q&As; development of interfaith, film-based projects engaging schools and youth groups.
-
Yom Ha’atzmaut – recommending, sourcing and curating films for schools to celebrate Israeli culture and independence.
Cost to school
Most programmes are fully funded although there can be costs incurred to clear rights to screen some films in schools (between £150-£200 depending on the licence held by the school).

Positive Activities for Jewish Youth
What we do
The JLGB trains and develops young people of the Jewish faith to reach their potential through active citizenship, within both the Jewish and wider community, empowering them to become future leaders of tomorrow.
Through a diverse range of experiences and activities the JLGB seeks to enrich the lives of young Jewish people through its local, regional and national framework. The JLGB removes barriers to participation by providing positive activities within a fun, friendly, safe and structured environment, that meet the religious and cultural needs of the Jewish community.
The JLGB encourages friendship through achievement, recognition and personal development programmes, which prepare and enable young Jewish people to develop the essential life skills needed to help their transition from young person to adult life.
