What we do
UK Jewish Film showcases a wide range of feature films, documentaries and shorts, which tell varied stories of Jewish and Israeli culture and life. Since inception our UK and international film Festivals have reached over 150,000 visitors. We aim to develop a culture where Jewish and Israeli film is recognised and enjoyed by the widest possible audience, and to position Jewish related film at the heart of British culture. Through film screenings, online resources and face to face workshops, we aim to educate a generation of young people, Jewish and non-Jewish, about the significance of the East End and Hackney in Anglo-Jewish culture as a starting point for discussion about wider concepts of cultural identity and cultural heritage. The intergenerational, film based programme is targeted primarily at year 8 students in secondary schools. Click here to see a trailer about the pilot project
-
Holocaust education - film screenings with Q&As; advice on pedagogical approaches to using Holocaust films in the classroom; suggestions for suitable films from our extensive archive.

Growing the number of Jewish bone marrow donors
What we do
This charity was set up in memory of Sue Harris who sadly passed in 1997 because a suitable bone marrow match could not be found for her.
We are active in helping to grow the register of possible donors from the Jewish community, as well as supporting medical research in this area.
Our focus now is on recruiting donors aged between 16 and 24 years of age. The process involves completing a medical questionnaire and taking a mouth swab.
What we offer schools
We would like to engage Jewish secondary schools in our mission to recruit more donors amongst pupils in years 12 and 13. We provide all the necessary elements, at no cost to the school.

Safeguarding and Child Protection Training for Parents and Teachers
What we do
Shema Koli, working together with Magen Yeladim (Los Angeles) delivers educational workshops that make parents, teachers and school leaders aware of safeguarding risks and give guidance on how to keep children safe – at home, at school and in the wider community.
Shema Koli also provides an anonymous helpline for victims and survivors of abuse in the Jewish community.
Shema Koli serves as a resource for teachers, professionals and community leaders seeking guidance and consultation about cases of abuse.
What we offer schools
We offer the opportunity to arrange your own safety awareness events and training workshops for parents and teachers. The presenters are from within the Jewish community, and understand the cultural sensitivity of these important subjects.
These workshops can be customised to your needs, but typically cover:
• the importance of parents having discussions with their children about personal safety
• raising awareness of the danger signs of grooming and abuse
• supporting parents’ and teachers’ roles in identifying the warning signs
• helping parents or teachers to handle a possible disclosure from a child.

This is what schools say about us
School Principal: “The school felt it was important to hold an evening for parents devoted to child protection. Unfortunately, this is a subject that needs to be discussed and I pay tribute to our Rabbis and Shema Koli for their guidance and leadership.”
A parent said: “I want to thank you for the most important evening you provided for the parents in the school. Although the topic and material was both disturbing and frightening in some ways, it was something we all had to hear in order to empower us and consequently our children. Shema Koli delivered the message in a clear, sensitive manner without diluting its impact. This engendered a frank, yet sensitive, discussion with our children which I hope will help to keep them safer.”

“Maccabi GB coaches provide our schools' PE teaching from years 1 to 6. Having specialist trained PE staff impacts greatly on both pupils and staff as the quality of the teaching is higher than most non specialist teachers could achieve. Both teachers and TA’s are able to learn from the Maccabi GB coach whilst watching the lessons. The Maccabi GB coaches follow the National Curriculum with a flexibility allowing them to bring out the best in our pupils teaching gymnastics, dance, games and track and field.
The coaches assist in choosing teams for competitions run by Maccabi GB and our local authority. Our school attained the award of best improvement in PE this year from the Jewish Chronicle of which we are justly proud and this was certainly aided by all Maccabi GB’s support and encouragement.
I would highly recommend Jewish Day Schools to use Maccabi GB as their PE provider and also help support this wonderful charity connecting Jewish sportsmen and women to both Sport and the wider Jewish community.” Lady Deborah Kestenbaum, PE coordinator and Assistant Head Independent Jewish Day School
“Beit Shvidler Primary School are regular participants in Maccabi GB Football and Maccabi GB Netball Tournaments. Over the years that we have been attending, I have seen an increase in the number of schools and number of children that take part, which creates an increasingly competitive and fun atmosphere. The atmosphere is great; all the children are excited to participate and it is nice to see children talk to others from other schools. As well as the organisation on the day itself, Maccabi GB are now also creating opportunities for the girls to receive extra football training. I have heard from girls from our school how much they are enjoying this and this feeds directly into the football they are playing in school.” Mr E Segal, Sports Leader, Beit Shvidler Primary School
